This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Establish and lead Thrivent’s technology strategy and implementation for Wealth Management and Insurance Products.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on strategy, the adoption of product operating modes, operational excellence, DevOps/engineering maturity, and platform implementation.
• Evaluate technical solution designs for architectural consistency and provide guidance to the team.
• Engage in discussions regarding system design and architecture.
• Review code, stay updated on best practices, and ensure completion of code reviews.
• Foster a culture of learning, knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement.
• Analyze technology trends and evaluate the business implications of emerging technologies.
• Support agile methodologies, learning events, and training initiatives.
• Collaborate with Product Managers on initiatives, epics, and features to clarify desired outcomes and provide technical insights.
• Work together on product strategies, operational plans, targets, and performance measures.
• Align the team with the priorities of the company and technology organization.
• Establish the technology vision, strategies, initiatives, roadmaps, objectives, and alignments for products and platforms.
• Advocate for the business value of technology upgrades and influence the prioritization of the product roadmap.
• Guide the selection of tools and platforms as well as build-versus-buy decisions.
• Encourage engineering best practices, DevOps methodologies, and automation.
• Contribute to the development of enterprise frameworks and patterns.
• Define and support processes for the software development lifecycle.
• Eliminate obstacles in resolving production incidents and issues.
• Ensure effective observability, monitoring, and alerting practices.
• Act as an escalation point for product-level support, maintenance, and production challenges.
• Oversee technology solutions, platforms, and vendor relationships.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and team discussions.
• Provide feedback, coaching, career development, and planning for engineers.
• Lead the selection and engagement of consulting partners.
• Plan for future staffing requirements and collaborate on recruitment efforts.
• Recruit, develop, and maintain a high-performing team.
• Supervise direct employees and consultants.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Over 8 years of progressively responsible roles in Information Technology, including more than 5 years in software development, portfolio strategy, and roadmap creation.
• At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience in a specific IT functional discipline, or equivalent experience leading significant technical projects with accountability for talent management and performance standards.
• Proven experience and leadership in introducing and expanding a Product Operating Model (Agile/Scrum).
• Demonstrated leadership and experience in managing multidisciplinary, high-performing teams.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to execute on multiple large projects.
• Experience collaborating with customers to devise solutions for complex business challenges.
• Proven capability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives.
• Ability to thrive in an environment that requires flexibility, sound judgment, and intelligent decision-making, often based on limited information and/or challenging conditions.
• Skills in formulating, implementing, and evaluating plans, programs, and procedures relevant to customer relationship and demand management.
• Direct experience with Life, Health, and Annuity insurance products, providing technology solutions for Financial Advisors (preferred).
• Possession of a Series 99 license or higher (preferred).
