Manager, Disaster Services Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee the execution of Disaster Services priorities and initiatives across internal departments, food banks, state associations, regional cooperatives, and external partners.

• Create and sustain presentations, reports, dashboards, and communications to engage stakeholders and executives.

• Organize meetings, workshops, webinars, planning sessions, and collaborative discussions; document decisions and monitor follow-up actions.

• Coordinate disaster preparedness planning, operational resources, training sessions, documentation, and education on incident command structure.

• Manage the pre-staging product program for Disaster Services, covering inventory, storage capacity, audits, deployment, replenishment, and tracking.

• Maintain files related to Disaster Services, including SharePoint/HungerNet resources, databases, SOPs, playbooks, templates, and operational guidance.

• Monitor disaster activities nationwide and provide situational awareness through Situation Reports, executive briefings, and operational updates.

• Act in a leadership capacity during disaster activations to coordinate national disaster response operations.

• Lead calls and operational briefings for the Disaster Response Leadership Team; coordinate with responding members and internal teams.

• Manage requests for food, water, transportation, loaned staff, volunteers, and other disaster resources.

• Assist in recovery efforts, conduct After Action Reviews, gather lessons learned, and drive operational enhancements.

• Offer operational guidance and respond to inquiries related to disasters from network members.

• Connect food banks with resources, guidance, and partner organizations pertaining to Disaster Services.

• Cultivate relationships with food banks, state associations, regional cooperatives, government agencies, voluntary organizations, corporate partners, and internal departments.

• Facilitate evaluation and continuous improvement through data collection, reporting, performance monitoring, and analysis.

• Represent Feeding America with national and regional partners through relationship-building, conferences, and speaking opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in emergency management, disaster response, disaster preparedness, or related work within a food bank or Partner State Association (PSA).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and relationship management abilities.

• Outstanding organizational and administrative skills with a keen attention to detail.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.

• Experience in planning and facilitating training sessions, workshops, exercises, meetings, webinars, or other stakeholder engagement activities.

• Familiarity with emergency management principles, disaster operations, and/or disaster planning.

• Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Background in coordinating national, multi-state, or large-scale disaster operations.

• Experience in collaborating with government agencies, voluntary organizations, and private-sector partners.

• Experience in food banks, Partner State Associations, food distribution networks, or supply chain operations that support disaster response and emergency food assistance.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States; Feeding America participates in E-Verify.
