This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Offer accounting expertise for various investment asset classes such as bonds, mortgages, derivatives, and equity investments.
• Engage in cross-functional teams addressing financial reporting implications related to investments.
• Influence the structuring of new investment opportunities.
• Manage the recognition and ongoing accounting for newly acquired investments or asset classes by F&G.
• Monitor and apply emerging accounting guidelines that affect investments.
• Evaluate unique investments proposed by asset managers and analyze their financial reporting outcomes.
• Examine the financial reporting consequences of organizational initiatives, including consolidation, asset transfers, derivatives and hedging programs, and capital financing.
• Assess, document, and educate stakeholders on GAAP and statutory accounting as well as financial reporting requirements.
• Evaluate new investments in accordance with statutory guidance, including principles-based bond definitions.
• Keep track of proposed amendments to GAAP and statutory accounting guidance, advocating for the company's positions during industry group discussions.
• Educate organizational stakeholders and coordinate across functions regarding relevant accounting literature.
• Prepare documentation that supports accounting positions in relation to new accounting standards.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of accounting policies.
• Collaborate directly with the audit team on new transactions and accounting standards.
• Act as a primary point of contact for accounting inquiries throughout the organization.
• Report to the AVP, Accounting Advisory, while collaborating with Investment Strategy, Hedging, Middle Office, Investment Accounting, and Capital Planning.
• A Bachelor's Degree in accounting is required.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in researching accounting guidance or prior accounting policy experience is necessary.
• Extensive knowledge of insurance company investment accounting topics is highly preferred, including fixed income investments, equity investments, derivatives, hedging, asset transfers, IMR/AVR, and affiliated accounting models.
• Experience with a Big 4 firm in the insurance audit practice or in an accounting advisory role focused on investment accounting is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in researching accounting issues, drafting professional accounting policies and position papers, and effectively communicating conclusions to management.
• Capable of exercising judgment, presenting alternatives, and making recommendations.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with business partners.
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.
• Skill in leading discussions and providing clear and concise documentation.
