
Managed Services Operations Lead – FinOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the leading technical authority and primary escalation contact for AHEAD’s Cloud FinOps service.
• Oversee the development, design, and execution of sophisticated enterprise-level FinOps solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Ensure that FinOps services and deliverables align with quality standards, deadlines, and contractual service obligations.
• Create technical roadmaps, innovation strategies, project estimates, risk management plans, and delivery schedules.
• Lead inquiries into cloud expenditure drivers, billing inconsistencies, optimization prospects, and cost transparency issues.
• Establish and supervise optimization methodologies that encompass rightsizing, idle resources, storage, data transfer, licensing, scheduling, AI, and GPU expenditures.
• Design architectures for cost allocation, tagging, showback, chargeback, budgeting, forecasting, unit economics, dashboards, and reporting.
• Manage commitment strategies, including reserved capacity, savings plans, coverage, utilization, renewals, and savings realization.
• Counsel clients on FinOps best practices, governance, operational models, and enhancements in maturity.
• Cultivate client relationships, assist in business growth, and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
• Present solution designs, recommendations, and innovations to senior leadership, as well as to technical, finance, and procurement stakeholders.
• Facilitate recurring client advisory and service review meetings.
• Propel the FinOps practice’s AI and automation roadmap, focusing on anomaly detection, rightsizing, commitment optimization, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Develop and supervise SQL queries, data transformations, and automation using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Integrate third-party tools, billing data sources, reporting platforms, ITSM tools, and cloud-native services.
• Oversee remediation efforts while adhering to client change-control and permission protocols.
• Mentor Cloud FinOps Engineers and evaluate team deliverables for technical and financial quality.
• Establish standards, procedures, data models, playbooks, automation, and reusable practice assets.
• Coordinate delivery resources across teams without direct personnel management responsibilities.
• Assist in pre-sales, solution development, scoping, positioning, and service advancement.
• Participate in on-call or escalation rotations and provide occasional after-hours or weekend support.
• Stay updated on cloud pricing, FinOps practices, AI, analytics, and provider roadmaps.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, finance, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• Over 10 years of experience in information technology, with at least 5 years focused on FinOps, cloud cost management, cloud governance, or related cloud engineering.
• More than 5 years in a customer-facing, stakeholder-facing, consulting, or service delivery role.
• At least 2 years of experience using and managing FinOps and cloud management platforms such as Harness CCM, Cloudability, CloudHealth, CloudZero, native cloud cost management tools, or similar solutions.
• Experience in designing, deploying, or operating large-scale, multi-account, multi-subscription, or enterprise cloud environments.
• Subject matter expertise in at least one major public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with practical experience in a second.
• Proven experience leading technical delivery, acting as an escalation point, and reviewing the work of other engineers.
• Proficient in SQL and at least one scripting language such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Possession of multiple relevant certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner, FinOps Certified Professional, AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud certifications, or similar.
• Experience integrating third-party tools, billing data sources, and reporting platforms.
• Strong analytical, financial modeling, spreadsheet, and problem-solving abilities.
• Expert understanding of cloud billing constructs, cloud billing data, usage trends, tagging compliance, and optimization across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience with enterprise cloud services across compute, storage, networking, databases, containers, security, and identity.
• Knowledge of FinOps principles, cloud-native cost optimization, governance frameworks, infrastructure as code, and cloud operating models.
• Experience with unit economics and linking infrastructure consumption to business and product metrics.
• Ability to collaboratively work through a solution live with a client, including whiteboarding a FinOps strategy.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Capability to lead independently in complex scenarios and collaborate across distributed teams and time zones.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to successfully pass AHEAD and client-required background screening.
• Availability during assigned team business hours across various United States time zones.
• Willingness to provide occasional after-hours support.
