Mainframe System Programmer – Part time Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Ensure the security, availability, and continuous operation of Mainframe systems hosted on IBM’s cloud service for on-demand z/OS development and testing environments.

• Deliver specialized technical support for computer and data center operations.

• Install, configure, upgrade, optimize, and troubleshoot Mainframe z/OS systems.

• Apply PTFs and maintenance through SMP/E, conduct IPLs, and fine-tune system parameters.

• Set up and configure security tools such as RACF, ACF2, and TSS.

• Monitor, log, and document system performance and usage metrics.

• Automate repetitive and manual tasks through scripting and configuration management systems.

• Assist in the installation, configuration, and testing of new SailPoint Mainframe connector releases.

• Enhance and standardize current processes.

• Identify and document the root causes of outages, their duration, and recommendations for resolution.

• Analyze trends and propose both short- and long-term enhancements.

• Support change management, implement change requests, and fulfill project deadlines.

• Address general inquiries.

• Collaborate with Product Engineering and Information Technology teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.

• Over 10 years of extensive experience as a System Administrator in an enterprise setting.

• Prior experience in maintaining Mainframe z/OS environments and security products like RACF, ACF2, and TSS.

• Proficient in installing and configuring the Mainframe z/OS operating system, z/VM, z/PDT, and HDISV.

• Experience in setting up and configuring RACF, ACF2, or TSS.

• Familiarity with REXX, JCL, and SMP/E.

• Strong knowledge of Linux, networking, firewalls, etc.

• Excellent ability to self-learn new technologies.

• Capable of working independently and meeting deadlines while juggling multiple projects.

• Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.

• Availability to work after hours, including weekends and nights, as needed.

• Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

• Ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical individuals.

• Experience in TCP/IP programming, IBM/C, or SAS/C is a plus.
