Mainframe DB2 System Programmer – SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Install and manage IBM DB2 z/OS software along with associated third-party products utilizing SMP/E.

• Collaborate with IBM and other vendors to resolve product defects, address issues, and answer usage queries.

• Set up DB2 groups and subsystems within SYSPLEX data-sharing environments.

• Provide support for mainframe DB2 applications.

• Conduct problem analysis and resolution for issues related to the mainframe DB2 system.

• Optimize system parameters and resources to enhance performance and capacity.

• Oversee the availability of DB2 subsystems, including backup and recovery strategies and procedures.

• Execute disaster recovery tests.

• Maintain the DB2 Catalog, Directory, and other DB2 system components.

• Document policies and procedures thoroughly.

• Offer secondary support to DBA staff regarding DB2 subsystem issues.

• Deliver security services related to the support of DB2 systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience with IBM System Z and its concepts.

• Proficient in software installation through SMP/E.

• Skilled in database management and performance optimization utilizing IBM, BMC, and Broadcom toolsets.

• Experience with DDF and DRDA for remote client/application connectivity.

• Familiar with RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret access control mechanisms.

• Knowledgeable in FLASH copy, DASD replication, DB2 forward recovery, z/OS storage management, Coupling Facility, TCP/IP, SNA, WLM, and USS.

• More than 5 years of experience with IBM DB2.

• Advanced understanding of buffer pools, page and tablespace layouts, and DB2 internal components including EDM pool and RIDs.

• Management of data sharing sysplex and configuration of ZPARMS.

• Competence in backup, recovery, and logging strategies.

• Expertise in lock/latch contention management, IFCID tracing, and performance monitoring.

• Experienced in problem determination and analysis.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.

• Experience with BMC MainView for DB2 and IBM Omegamon for DB2 is preferred.

• Familiarity with IBM Query Monitor for DB2 is preferred.

• Knowledge of Java, web services, and SOA concepts is preferred.

• REXX programming experience is preferred.
