M&A Associate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee financial analysis, modeling, and valuation for solar and storage initiatives utilizing Excel, including scenario and sensitivity assessments.

• Develop internal and external documentation, such as investment committee memos, market summaries, transaction updates, pipeline materials, presentations, and reports.

• Manage due diligence processes and create proposals and investment documentation for portfolio acquisitions.

• Assist in commercial negotiations with developers, partners, stakeholders, and clients.

• Work in collaboration with engineering, finance, legal, and construction teams on project acquisition proposals.

• Identify and assess opportunities for solar and storage acquisition and origination.

• Perform commercial due diligence on interconnection, site control, permitting, offtake, subscriber assumptions, bill credits, renewable energy credits, EPC pricing, operational assumptions, and development milestones.

• Examine community solar and energy storage market trends, policies, incentives, and regulatory frameworks.

• Investigate state and local regulations, utility tariffs, program rules, wholesale energy and capacity pricing, community solar bill credit rates, retail rates, and renewable energy credit fundamentals and forecasting.

• Keep track of and report market updates through industry publications, interconnection queues, and program capacity lists.

• Utilize AI-enabled analytical tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, to enhance financial modeling workflows, automate repetitive analyses, improve model quality control, and identify process efficiencies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a quantitative field, with previous renewable energy experience or substantial relevant coursework.

• 2-4 years of experience in renewable energy, investment banking, project finance, M&A, project development, project acquisitions, asset valuation, and/or project modeling focused on the U.S. renewable energy sector.

• Solid understanding of project finance principles, including tax and debt structures, return metrics like IRR, NPV, DSCR, and CAFD, as well as community solar policies, bill credit structures, and distributed energy market fundamentals.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment.

• Experience in financial modeling for solar and storage assets, including discounted cash flow and sensitivity analysis.

• Advanced Excel skills are necessary; proficiency in PowerPoint is preferred.

• Hands-on experience using AI productivity tools, such as Microsoft Copilot and/or Claude, to enhance research, analysis, drafting, summarization, and workflow efficiency.

• Comfortable working in a remote setting.
