M&A Associate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee financial analysis, modeling, and valuation for solar and storage initiatives utilizing Excel, encompassing scenario and sensitivity analysis.

• Develop internal and external documentation, which includes investment committee memos, market summaries, transaction updates, pipeline materials, presentations, and reports.

• Assist with portfolio acquisitions by managing due diligence, crafting project proposals and investment documents, and engaging in commercial negotiations.

• Work collaboratively with engineering, finance, legal, and construction teams on project acquisition proposals.

• Identify and assess solar and storage project acquisition and origination prospects based on technical, financial, regulatory, and commercial factors.

• Perform commercial due diligence on interconnection, site control, permitting, offtake and subscriber assumptions, bill credits, renewable energy credits, EPC pricing, operational assumptions, and development milestones.

• Examine market trends, policies, incentives, and regulatory frameworks regarding community solar and energy storage.

• Investigate state and local regulations, utility tariffs, program rules, wholesale energy and capacity pricing, community solar bill credit rates, retail rates, and renewable energy credit fundamentals and forecasting.

• Monitor, track, and communicate market developments through industry publications, interconnection queues, and program capacity lists.

• Utilize AI-enabled analytical tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, to refine financial modeling processes, automate repetitive analyses, enhance model quality control, and uncover process efficiencies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a quantitative discipline with prior experience in renewable energy or substantial relevant coursework.

• 2-4 years of experience in renewable energy, investment banking, project finance, M&A, project development, project acquisitions, asset valuation, and/or project modeling concentrated on the U.S. renewable energy sector.

• Strong grasp of project finance principles, including tax and debt structures, return metrics such as IRR, NPV, DSCR, and CAFD, as well as community solar policies, bill credit frameworks, and distributed energy market basics.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for conveying complex information clearly and concisely.

• Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, deadline-oriented setting.

• Experience in financial modeling for solar and storage projects, including discounted cash flow and sensitivity analysis.

• Advanced skills in Excel are essential; proficiency in PowerPoint is preferred.

• Practical experience with AI productivity tools, including Microsoft Copilot and/or Claude, to enhance research, analysis, drafting, summarization, and workflow efficiency.
