This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Gather, assess, and oversee political violence and protest data across Angola, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

• Analyze news articles, reports from international organizations, NGOs, and security agencies for the designated countries.

• Document incidents of political violence in an Excel template.

• Categorize events to ensure comprehensive coverage of ongoing political violence, including protests and conflicts.

• Maintain the quality, consistency, and reliability of the data generated.

• Submit deliverables mid-week and on weekends as required.

• Participate in extensive ACLED training exercises.

• Operate as an independent consultant during the initial consultancy period from 9 November 2026 to 30 June 2027.

⛳️ Requirements

• A university degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or a related field.

• Proficiency in Excel (mandatory).

• Fluent in English (mandatory).

• Fluent in Portuguese (mandatory).

• Experience in conducting desk-based research.

• Proven ability to work to deadlines with minimal supervision.

• Strong attention to detail and capacity to accept and integrate feedback.

• Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peacebuilding in the region or specific country studies is a significant advantage.

• Understanding of conflict dynamics and actors in the relevant countries.

• Access to a computer, a reliable internet connection, email, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

• Capability to work with conflict-related media and engage with content regarding violent events.

• Availability for at least 10 to 15 hours per week.

• Successful completion of ACLED training exercises at the required proficiency level.

• Willingness to undertake a two-hour coding aptitude exercise if shortlisted.

• Open to candidates from any nationality.
