Litigation Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Exercise independent judgment and discretion in the management or direction of litigated claims.

• Conduct investigations, assess coverage, liability, and develop resolution strategies with recommendations.

• Select, engage, and collaborate with defense counsel in the management of lawsuits.

• Oversee litigation costs and ensure defense counsel complies with ERIE's billing policies.

• Ensure adherence to Outside Counsel Guidelines by directing defense counsel's actions.

• Provide training and mentorship.

• Maintain documentation of claim files.

• Travel to and provide services in western New York.

• Follow additional job-related instructions and carry out further duties as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in handling litigation claims or legal experience, or equivalent, is required.

• An Associate degree or paralegal certification along with eight years of experience in litigation claims or legal experience is required.

• A high school diploma or GED with ten years of experience in litigation claims or legal experience is required.

• Strong understanding of claims handling is essential.

• In-depth knowledge of tort law and insurance coverage is required.

• Appropriate state licensing is necessary.

• A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

• Willingness to travel and provide services in western New York is necessary.

• Regular and dependable attendance is required.

• Capability to meet the listed physical demands, including frequent driving and computer use.

• AIC or SCLA designation is preferred.
