This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Cover state and federal courts in Florida, focusing particularly on the Florida Supreme Court and federal appellate courts.
• Report on significant court decisions, essential filings, and impactful lawsuits, translating developments into clear insights for a discerning audience.
• Identify early indicators by tracking filings, docket activity, and case patterns to spot trends, anomalies, and turning points prior to widespread recognition.
• Produce breaking news under tight deadlines for both local and national audiences.
• Utilize resources—from human intelligence and detailed case filing data to insights from our data-driven Radar team and AI—to uncover trends and shifts in the litigation landscape ahead of others.
• Balance daily news coverage with rapid-turn enterprise pieces and in-depth features that examine litigation issues, law firm strategies, and broader legal trends in Florida and beyond.
• Connect local and regional reporting with contributions from colleagues across Law.com’s global newsroom to highlight national trend stories and multi-market initiatives.
• Cultivate and maintain a robust network of litigators, judges, and legal professionals to generate exclusive insights and enhance the authority and credibility of coverage.
• Collaborate effectively with reporters and editors across various locations and platforms, contributing to social media and audience engagement efforts.
• Write with clarity and authority on litigation topics that impact legal risk, strategies, and outcomes.
• As a standard expectation, reporters should aim for at least one story per day and one enterprise story per week, consistently upholding Law.com’s high editorial standards.
• Outstanding writing abilities, capable of producing clear, concise, and authoritative journalism under deadline pressure.
• Proven capability to establish and foster relationships with lawyers, judges, and other legal stakeholders.
• Thrives in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment; adept at balancing breaking news, analysis, and enterprise reporting simultaneously.
• Willing and enthusiastic about attending and covering court hearings and trials in person.
• Ability to write two to three stories daily and consistently produce quick-turn enterprise work, including four enterprise pieces each month.
• A disciplined, ownership-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to editorial rigor and accuracy.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills; collaborative and reliable.
• Creative, inquisitive, and passionate about utilizing social media platforms, visual storytelling, interactive data, and digital tools to enhance reporting and engage with readers.
• Ideally, two to three years of experience in a daily news setting; experience in legal or business journalism is advantageous, though strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Comfort with basic data—such as filing volumes, docket trends, and litigation patterns—to support enterprise reporting and analysis is a plus.
• Must reside in or around South Florida.
