📋 Description

• Collaborate with the Senior Editor to coordinate PEOPLE’s personality-driven national affairs coverage.

• Direct digital coverage for PEOPLE’s Current Events section.

• Manage coverage of significant events and handle routine daily news along with breaking news scenarios.

• Assist in developing strategies and identifying content opportunities related to trends, prominent families, national figures, and relevant issues.

• Explore social media and other resources for new and exclusive stories.

• Locate, supervise, assign, and edit a substantial volume of articles on a daily basis.

• Work together with the legal team to vet stories.

• Plan coverage, make assignments, and oversee implementation utilizing the editorial calendar, data, and analytics.

• Write as necessary and undertake other assigned responsibilities.

• Manage the digital presence of large-scale event coverage.

• Anticipate and prepare for news moments in advance.

• Generate ideas for key second-beat and breakout posts to capitalize on breaking and trending news stories.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, ideally in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

• At least 7 years of experience in a high-volume digital news environment, demonstrating proven leadership.

• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently.

• Strong writing and editing abilities, with impeccable journalistic standards and keen attention to detail.

• Capability to respond promptly to breaking news and discern between urgent and non-urgent content.

• Understanding of SEO and analytics.

• A proven track record of driving traffic.

• Strong managerial skills.

• Genuine interest and knowledge of national affairs-related topics, as well as fluency in the media landscape.

• Eligibility to work in the United States, confirmed through the federal E-Verify program.
