Senior Reporter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Consistently deliver timely, impactful, and precise news, with an expectation of producing at least one story each weekday.

• Modify the publishing schedule for multi-day stories and larger projects to accommodate the creation of more in-depth pieces.

• Collaborate closely with editors and fellow reporters to cultivate compelling story angles that align with the publication's focus on grassroots perspectives.

• Establish and nurture relationships with sources to ensure a continuous influx of high-quality and relevant story ideas.

• Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices, and suggest enhancements to editorial workflows.

• Serve as the voice of Task & Purpose on social media, participate in occasional media appearances, panels, YouTube, future programs, and podcasts.

• Aid in the development and execution of editorial projects and initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in writing, journalism, or a related discipline.

• A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a comparable field.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, particularly in conversational writing that makes complex topics accessible.

• Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing platforms.

• Proven ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects at once.

• A strong passion for journalism and storytelling.

• Experience in covering the military and veteran communities, defense matters, or military reporting is preferred.

• A thorough understanding of the FOIA process is preferred for certain candidate profiles.

• Additional skills in areas such as newsletters, on-camera interviews, podcast hosting, or related newsroom capabilities are highly valued.
