This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Manage a portfolio of intricate medical malpractice and general liability claims for acute hospitals and employed providers.
• Supervise the litigation defense process from incident reports and investigations through to notice of claim, lawsuit, discovery, mediation, settlement, arbitration, or trial.
• Collaborate with hospital administration, risk managers, or patient safety managers to gather and review incident reports, medical records, billing records, and contracts with co-defendants.
• Raise significant incidents to the attention of leadership.
• Retain and guide defense counsel.
• Support counsel with witness coordination and responses to discovery.
• Track claims and oversee counsel to ensure an effective litigation strategy, including responses, expert retention, dispositive motions, mediations, and trial preparation.
• Assess cases for reserve adjustments and create reports for the VP/AGC and senior leadership.
• Participate in mediations as the organizational negotiator and attend trials to oversee and adapt strategy.
• Generate reports for insurance carriers.
• Hold regular meetings with the VP/AGC for Litigation concerning high-risk claims.
• Execute other assigned responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Over seven years of experience in medical malpractice or healthcare-related claims management.
• Expertise in legal case management software and/or claims database systems and court filing portals.
• Familiarity with medical procedures, terminology, healthcare standards of care, regulations, and state court litigation procedures.
• General research, analytical, and computer skills, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Extensive experience in negotiation and strategy.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Capability to work independently with strong time management and organizational abilities.
• Strong customer service focus and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in interacting with individuals at all organizational levels, including senior executives and outside counsel.
• Up to 10% travel may be necessary.
• Final candidate is subject to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
