Litigation Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +24 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage litigation activities related to claims and develop case strategies for specific Shelter states.

• Guide Managers and Supervisors in the handling, investigation, and communication of complex, high-stakes, and critical branch claims.

• Oversee, supervise, hire, terminate, monitor, and assess the performance of external legal counsel.

• Lead and instruct claims-handling processes as influenced by state laws for assigned Shelter branches and units.

• Create, train, and implement comprehensive claims-handling protocols in compliance with state regulations.

• Investigate legal precedents to determine their implications on claims handling, procedures, other Shelter departments, and proposed policy changes.

• Advise personnel from other Shelter departments on claims, coverage, and legal matters.

• Organize and develop suitable training programs for schools, eLearning, and branch locations.

• Capability to adapt to ever-changing schedules, collaborate effectively with others, and prioritize critical, essential, and time-sensitive tasks.

• Skill in cultivating vital relationships and earning respect from a diverse group, including defense attorneys, adjusters, claimants and their attorneys, judges, and Shelter management and departments.

• Juris Doctor degree and a comprehensive understanding of litigation, claims-litigation precedents, legal rulings, insurance law, and policy terms.

• 1-3 years of experience in trial or legal claims.

• 6-12 months of on-the-job training to familiarize with insurance contracts, claims procedures and policies, court jurisdictions and processes, and to build relationships with branches, area attorneys, and other departments.

• Ability to carry out essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Must reside in one of the following states: AL, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MS, MO, NE, NV, NC, OH, OK, OR, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI.
