Linguist, Transcriber – Chichewa/Nyanja

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malawi.

📋 Description

• Create accurate transcripts from audio recordings, including background noises and conversations.

• Adhere to annotation standards while ensuring high fidelity to the spoken material.

• Convert transcribed content from the native language into natural, fluent English.

• Maintain the original meaning, tone, and cultural nuances.

• Evaluate and amend transcripts or translations for precision and thoroughness.

• Offer structured feedback regarding linguistic concerns.

• Potentially conduct both transcription and translation simultaneously from audio to English.

• Complete onboarding and payment arrangements following selection and testing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native-level fluency in Chichewa/Nyanja target language(s).

• A graduate degree in translation, linguistics, or language studies, OR a graduate degree in another discipline alongside 2 years of full-time professional translation experience, OR 5 years of full-time professional translation experience.

• Previous experience with spoken language transcription is highly advantageous.

• Dependable availability and dedication to the role.

• Most tasks necessitate a minimum commitment of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week.

• A CV must be submitted in English.

• Capability to complete a project-specific test if needed.

• Contractors must not be engaged in areas subject to international embargoes or sanctions.

• Contractors are accountable for their own tax responsibilities.
