This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +43 more states.
β’ Perform post-issue audits and monitor new underwriting initiatives.
β’ Evaluate the technical accuracy, adherence to guidelines, and quality of decision-making by underwriters.
β’ Analyze underwriting decisions for their medical, financial, and operational soundness.
β’ Ensure that decisions comply with company guidelines, risk appetite, and mortality projections.
β’ Detect significant errors, trends, and themes in audit outcomes.
β’ Create structured reports and provide recommendations for management.
β’ Work in collaboration with Underwriting Management and Risk Management on Corrective Action Plans and remediation tracking.
β’ Enhance the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, focusing on control design, key risk indicators, and governance standards.
β’ Convert audit findings into focused training, coaching, and guideline clarifications with the Training & Development team.
β’ Evaluate and test new tools, rules engines, and GenAI solutions to assess their effects on underwriting quality and risk.
β’ Support targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
β’ Maintain comprehensive and accurate audit documentation for internal audits, governance committees, and regulatory reviews.
β’ Continuously refine audit frameworks, metrics, and reporting methodologies.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of experience in life insurance underwriting.
β’ Demonstrated expertise in both medical and financial underwriting.
β’ Strong grasp of life insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and principles of risk selection.
β’ Capability to interpret complex medical and financial information and evaluate risk effectively.
β’ Exceptional analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
β’ Proficiency in identifying patterns and root causes within audit findings.
β’ Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
β’ Capacity to present findings clearly and constructively to underwriters and leadership.
β’ High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
β’ Preferred: experience in auditing, quality assurance, or risk management within life underwriting.
β’ Preferred: familiarity with governance frameworks, risk controls, and regulatory standards pertaining to underwriting.
β’ Preferred: proficiency in Excel or BI tools for analyzing audit results and trends.
β’ Preferred: professional designations such as ALU, FALU, FLMI, or equivalent.
β’ Technical expertise in medical and financial underwriting.
β’ Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
β’ Objectivity and fairness in assessments and feedback.
β’ Collaborative spirit to work with Underwriting, Risk, Training, Innovation, and Pricing teams.
