This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Deliver confidential individual behavioral health counseling via secure virtual video and/or telephone sessions.
• Provide brief, goal-oriented, solution-focused therapy.
• Perform clinical screenings, intake assessments, risk evaluations, and set personalized treatment goals.
• Utilize evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and, where applicable, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
• Address issues such as performance anxiety, academic and athletic stress, anxiety, mild depressive symptoms, adjustment challenges, injury recovery, interpersonal conflicts, sleep issues, motivation, and stress management.
• Track clinical progress and apply outcome/progress measures.
• Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation within 24 hours following each session.
• Recognize needs beyond the program's scope and initiate referrals for crisis services, higher levels of care, substance use, eating disorders, or specialized behavioral health requirements.
• Adhere to university and program protocols concerning safety concerns, mandated reporting, emergencies, and referrals.
• Formulate transition and discharge plans.
• Provide warm handoffs and referrals to Longwood Counseling Services, community providers, or other resources.
• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and FERPA-related standards.
• Collaborate with university personnel only with proper consent and in accordance with applicable privacy regulations.
• Gain knowledge of the culture, schedules, and stressors of assigned athletic teams.
• Engage in mental health education, seminars, workshops, or masterclasses.
• Support utilization tracking and provide de-identified aggregate program reporting.
• Contribute to program evaluation and offer insights on student-athlete needs, referral trends, and program enhancements.
• Master's level clinician: LCSW/LPC/LMHC/LMFT degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Current, independent LCSW/LPC/LMHC/LMFT or equivalent license in the state of Virginia.
• At least two years of experience conducting therapy sessions as a Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician.
• Proven experience in providing individual behavioral health therapy.
• Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic interventions, especially CBT and DBT.
• Strong skills in clinical assessment, documentation, and care coordination.
• Ability to independently evaluate presenting issues and determine the necessity for referral to a higher level of care.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
• Capacity to deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental care.
• Comfort with providing behavioral health services through a virtual platform.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and safeguard confidential health information.
• Preferred: experience working with college students, student-athletes, adolescents, or young adults.
• Preferred: experience in addressing performance anxiety, sports psychology, athletic stress, injury recovery, or team dynamics.
• Preferred: training or experience in performance psychology.
• Preferred: experience in a university, college athletics, sports medicine, or similar setting.
• Preferred: experience in facilitating behavioral health education, workshops, or group presentations.
• Preferred: specialized training or credentials in sport/performance psychology, including CMPC or APA Sport Psychology Proficiency.
• Remote/virtual work arrangement.
• Work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET, based on provider availability.
• Approximately 6–8 sessions per participating student-athlete.
