Legal Researcher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Conduct comprehensive legal, regulatory, legislative, corporate, and general research for attorneys and administrative personnel.

• Utilize Lexis, CourtLink, public records platforms, and various research tools.

• Collaborate with attorneys and staff to clarify research goals and suggest effective research methodologies.

• Provide practical and actionable research outcomes.

• Facilitate business development, competitive intelligence, client, industry, and market research.

• Assist attorney, practice group, and firm strategic initiatives.

• Prepare clear research summaries, reports, and source analyses.

• Identify pertinent risks, considerations, and subsequent actions.

• Create and manage alerts to monitor clients, cases, and industries.

• Contribute to the firm’s AI initiatives by assessing and aiding in the implementation of new technologies and legal AI tools.

• Stay informed about emerging AI trends and advocate for responsible usage in line with firm policies, confidentiality obligations, and source validation standards.

• Aid in onboarding and training attorneys and staff on research tools, AI-enabled platforms, alerts, and best practices.

• Work both collaboratively and independently to ensure high-quality research outcomes.

• Perform additional related tasks as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree in Library Science, MLIS, or equivalent, and/or J.D. is preferred.

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in conducting extensive legal research.

• Experience with general litigation research, including case law and expert witness research.

• Understanding of the legal profession, including a foundational knowledge of litigation and transactional practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Highly developed organizational skills.

• Familiarity with legal AI tools and proven experience utilizing AI for legal research.

• Capability to independently manage projects and complete them in a timely and cost-effective manner.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

• Knowledge of and experience with various research-related databases.

• Ability to take initiative, work under pressure, and complete assignments accurately, promptly, and professionally.
