Legal Research Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Conduct legal research across various jurisdictions, focusing on contractor and partner engagement models, entity structuring, employment, and commercial law.

• Create and maintain contract templates, including consulting agreements, teaching assistant agreements, statements of work, amendments, and termination agreements, tailored to specific jurisdictions.

• Review and revise counterparty contracts while highlighting significant terms.

• Develop and manage the legal register that tracks active matters, deadlines, obligations, renewals, and filings.

• Define the scope for external counsel, prepare briefing materials, monitor costs and timelines, and critically evaluate their advice.

• Assist with entity formation, restructuring, and due diligence for market entry.

• Keep updated communication templates and FAQs for teams collaborating with instructors.

• Create systems that allow a small legal team to effectively support a rapidly expanding company.

⛳️ Requirements

• A law degree with 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, whether in private practice, in-house, or in legal services.

• Exceptional command of written English.

• Demonstrated legal research capabilities, including familiarity with legal systems outside your own.

• Ability to determine when local counsel is necessary and how to communicate the questions effectively.

• Experience in drafting and redlining contracts.

• Thoughtful and verified utilization of AI research tools.

• Comfort with ambiguity and the initiative to refine vague business inquiries into precise legal questions.

• Genuine interest in understanding the operational aspects of the business.

• Experience with cross-border contractor or freelancer engagement models (desirable).

• Background in employment or labor law (desirable).

• Bar admission in your home jurisdiction (desirable).

• Experience in data protection, including GDPR and POPIA (desirable).

• Background in a distributed, remote-first workplace (desirable).
