Lead Technical Writer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Guide and implement the strategy and roadmap for technical documentation.

• Align documentation priorities with the needs of users and the goals of the organization.

• Promote the Docs as Code methodology through standards, tools, contribution workflows, governance, and automation.

• Design information architecture and content structure.

• Empower and mentor teams to take ownership of and contribute to documentation.

• Develop and enhance technical, product, and API documentation for both internal and external audiences.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams on documentation priorities.

• Advance AI-assisted documentation practices to support Agentic Product Development.

• Utilize AI to enhance knowledge capture, creation, quality, and maintenance.

• Foster measurable enhancements in developer experience through data, research, and feedback.

• Cultivate relationships across teams and influence leaders and builders without having direct authority.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in technical writing or developer documentation.

• Proven experience in shaping or scaling documentation practices within a contemporary software, SaaS, or developer-platform context.

• Outstanding technical writing and information architecture capabilities.

• A portfolio or examples of relevant work that showcase the quality and breadth of experience.

• Familiarity with Docs as Code and modern developer workflows.

• Experience with Git-based contributions and review processes.

• Proficiency in documentation platforms, automated quality checks, and publishing workflows.

• Experience with Vale or similar documentation tools.

• Experience in creating API documentation.

• Knowledge of APIs, OpenAPI specifications, software development workflows, and contemporary developer tools.

• Experience in building scalable documentation practices, standards, governance, contribution models, and workflows.

• Practical experience applying AI to documentation or knowledge workflows.

• Understanding of authoritative knowledge for AI-assisted and agentic experiences.

• Strong collaboration and influencing abilities.

• Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience that is equivalent.
