Lead Substation Physical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the design and creation of substation physical design drawings.

• Develop Substation One Line and Three Line diagrams.

• Create Station General Arrangements & Sections.

• Generate Electrical Details.

• Formulate Grounding Plans & Details.

• Design Conduit Plans & Details.

• Layout Control Cubicles, Sections, Cable Trays, Lighting, and Grounding.

• Work on Low-Voltage AC Panels.

• Establish Lightning Protection measures.

• Produce Illumination Plans & Details.

• Lead the design and execution of engineering studies, including AC Load, Illumination, Grounding, and Lightning Shielding.

• Create Bills of Materials based on design specifications.

• Collaborate with protection & controls, civil/structural, and drafting teams to ensure high-quality deliverables.

• Assist in client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning activities.

• Engage in site visits and constructability reviews.

• Analyze and integrate vendor information into design outputs.

• Adhere to client standards relevant to the work.

• Implement and ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes for all design packages.

• Ensure adherence to industry codes (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC) and utility standards.

• Pursue continuous enhancement of job-related engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.

• Mentor and support junior engineers and designers.

• Exhibit leadership potential to facilitate transition into a Supervising Engineer role.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on power systems.

• Over 8 years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.

• Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design software.

• Knowledge of substation design standards and practices (IEEE, NESC, utility specifications).

• Capability to manage multiple projects while mentoring junior staff.

• Experience in leading substation projects modeled in 3D using Autodesk Inventor.

• Familiarity with substation grounding studies and CDEGS.

• Knowledge of Agi32 illumination software.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Word and Excel.
