Lead, Strategic Communications and Campaigns

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute the strategy for the Germany desk, translating overarching network directives into specific objectives and actionable tactics.

• Monitor political and media discussions in Germany, identifying strategic communication opportunities related to climate and energy policy.

• Implement communication strategies through press pitches, media briefings, identification of spokespeople and multipliers, alliance building, and sharing of skills.

• Collaborate to create and execute campaigns surrounding significant political events across various platforms.

• Work in conjunction with in-house insights and digital specialists.

• Manage relationships with multipliers and curate editorial content.

• Develop audience-specific messaging and materials tailored for communication channels and platforms.

• Proactively plan crisis communication strategies and prepare responses to potential issues impacting climate initiatives.

• Monitor the impact and outcomes, track media mentions, and formulate recommendations for enhancing interventions.

• Offer expert advice to teams and external partners on communication strategies, trends, and tactics.

• Identify, train, and elevate spokespeople on climate and transition topics.

• Line manage members of the Germany desk team, establish objectives, provide feedback, and support professional growth.

• Oversee the desk budget, allocate resources, track expenditures, and anticipate future needs.

• Commit to working 40 hours per week.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in communications, public affairs, or journalism, preferably with a proven record of impactful communication initiatives in Germany.

• Ability to utilize political insights while maintaining complete neutrality, professional discretion, and non-partisan public representation.

• Strong comprehension of national policy-making processes and dynamics, as well as Germany’s broader influence within the EU.

• Excellent understanding of the power dynamics among political parties.

• High familiarity with the German media landscape, including traditional media, online platforms, and the digital creator community; existing contacts are highly advantageous.

• Solid understanding of how disinformation and platform dynamics influence public perception.

• Passion for strategic storytelling and hands-on content creation.

• Active network of influential sector experts and voices from think tanks, civil society, academia, and business, with the ability to forge new meaningful connections.

• Native-level proficiency in written and spoken German.

• Proficiency in written and spoken English, the working language.

• Ability to collaborate generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community.

• Adaptable skills to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse environment and across time zones.

• Experience with Zoom, Slack, and tools within the Google Suite.

• Capability to perform effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, make sound decisions, and execute tasks promptly.

• Commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to addressing climate change.

• Right to work in the candidate’s location.

• Nice to have: previous experience in climate, energy, or civil society; familiarity with monitoring platforms, survey tools, email marketing platforms, and online collaboration tools; additional languages.
