Lead Relay Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment.

• Oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of intricate control systems, protective relay systems, substation and electric utility protection systems, as well as SCADA systems.

• Interpret the scope of work at the project level.

• Plan and schedule commissioning and resource allocation.

• Provide leadership to ensure test activities are completed efficiently, punctually, without service interruptions, and in compliance with safety protocols.

• Analyze substation drawings, including single line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout plans.

• Develop procedures and testing plans for maintenance and construction tasks.

• Create isolation plans and functional guidelines.

• Conduct tests on voltage and current inputs, local and SCADA metering, relays, trips, alarms, and function switches.

• Diagnose and repair substation relaying and control apparatus.

• Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel gear, controls, and communication devices.

• Provide technical support for projects to Field Service personnel.

• Mentor junior field service staff.

• Act as a protective relaying subject matter expert in the field.

• Function as the technical lead for small project teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment validation, relay calibration, and the testing and repairing of substation relaying and control systems.

• Preferred experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and the installation and testing of SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment.

• Understanding of three-phase power systems and power system protection and control schemes.

• Familiarity with test equipment and test equipment software.

• Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools, and wiring.

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills to perform the duties mentioned.

• Fundamental PC skills.

• Capability to quickly learn and implement testing procedures for various types of substation equipment.

• Effective communication skills with diverse groups.

• Ability to understand and apply client switching procedures and safety protocols.

• Competence in referencing and completing assignments as outlined in relevant specifications.

• Willingness to perform regular fieldwork both indoors and outdoors.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management abilities.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

• Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing.
