Lead Protection and Control Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays along with related equipment.

• Oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of intricate control systems, protective relay systems, substation and electric utility protection systems, as well as station automation and SCADA systems.

• Analyze project-level scopes of work.

• Organize commissioning activities and manage resource scheduling.

• Lead the team to efficiently complete testing activities, ensuring on-time delivery without service interruptions, all while adhering to safety protocols.

• Read and interpret substation drawings, including single line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout schematics.

• Develop procedures and test plans to support maintenance and construction efforts, which include isolation plans and functional guidelines.

• Conduct tests on relay voltage and current inputs, local and SCADA metering, relays, trips, alarms, and function switches.

• Diagnose and repair substation relaying and control equipment.

• Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel equipment, controls, and communication devices.

• Offer technical support for projects to Field Service staff.

• Mentor junior field service personnel.

• Act as a subject matter expert in protective relaying.

• Serve as the technical lead for small project teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, and testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.

• Experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing is preferred.

• Understanding of 3-phase power systems.

• Familiarity with power system protection and control schemes.

• Proficiency in test equipment and associated software.

• Competence in using test equipment, tools, and wiring.

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills necessary to carry out the specified duties.

• Fundamental PC skills.

• Capacity to quickly learn and implement test procedures for various substation equipment types.

• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.

• Willingness to learn and apply client-specific switching procedures and safety protocols.

• Capability to reference and fulfill assignments as detailed in relevant specifications.

• Proficiency in English communication, including reading and writing.

• Ability to conduct regular fieldwork both indoors and outdoors.

• Strong interpersonal skills, communication abilities, business insight, and management competency.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
