Lead Product Designer, Design Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee the strategy and implementation for various aspects of HighLevel’s design system.

• Establish and advance visual foundations, which encompass tokens, theming, color, typography, spacing, iconography, and motion.

• Design and enhance components and patterns, taking into account states, variants, responsive behavior, edge cases, and failure states.

• Develop primitives, templates, and starter kits to facilitate AI-assisted product development.

• Document and encode visual, interaction, content, and accessibility guidelines in machine-readable formats.

• Collaborate with front-end engineers on token architecture, component APIs, and ensuring implementation fidelity.

• Define contribution, versioning, deprecation, and governance frameworks.

• Assist product teams in adopting the system and incorporate usage insights back into it.

• Promote innovation in both design and technology.

• Establish standards for usability, accessibility, interaction quality, and visual consistency.

• Provide mentorship to designers through critique sessions and system reviews.

• Work collaboratively across time zones in the US, UK, and India within a fully remote setting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in product design, including the development or leadership of a multi-team design system.

• A robust portfolio showcasing at least one case study at the system level, detailing your role, architecture, governance, and measurable outcomes.

• Advanced skills in visual and interaction design, covering hierarchy, layout, typography, grids, spacing, motion, usability, accessibility, and product quality.

• Expert proficiency with Figma libraries, variables, modes, component properties, and token pipelines.

• Proven experience in architecting scalable systems across teams and integrating them with AI tools.

• Strong understanding of front-end development, including HTML, CSS, and component frameworks like React or Vue.

• Practical experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.

• In-depth knowledge of WCAG guidelines and hands-on experience in designing and testing accessible components.

• Experience in designing AI-driven or intelligent interfaces.

• Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication abilities.

• Portfolio must feature design system work; applications lacking this will not be considered.
