Lead Platform Engineer – OpenStack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Oversee and direct the transition from outdated virtualization systems to an advanced bare-metal OpenStack framework.

• Design and enhance high-performance networking infrastructures, including Software-Defined Networking (SDN), BGP routing, and firewall configurations.

• Deploy extensive automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to establish self-sustaining healing mechanisms.

• Integrate AI agents and automated processes for virtual machine (VM) provisioning, monitoring responses, and security clearances.

• Create API services and orchestration scripts utilizing programming languages such as Python or C#.

• Contribute to the development of modern control-plane frontends.

• Provide support and mentorship to junior staff and team members.

• Share best practices related to contemporary data center operations.

• Spearhead the comprehensive reconstruction of a highly available, sovereign OpenStack-based private/public cloud infrastructure utilizing dedicated bare-metal hardware.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of extensive experience in building, managing, and troubleshooting OpenStack cloud environments.

• Profound knowledge of Linux administration, particularly with Debian/Ubuntu.

• Familiarity with common automation tools like Ansible and Terraform, alongside IaC frameworks.

• Strong grasp of BGP, Anycast, SDN, and contemporary routing and routing security principles.

• Robust programming abilities in languages such as Python, C#, or similar.

• Understanding of and a keen interest in utilizing AI tools for effectively managing large-scale server environments.

• Reliable decision-making skills and the capability to act decisively in critical situations.

• Strong strategic vision for sustainable system architectures.

• Proficiency in both German and English.

• Nice to have: Experience in implementing custom AI agents within IT infrastructures.

• Nice to have: Experience in replacing or migrating substantial VMware environments.

• Nice to have: Previous knowledge of modern web frontends such as Vue.js or React.
