Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Hampshire, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee intricate mechanical hardware designs for customer or innovative projects.

• Collaborate with system architects to assess and clarify design requirements while defining mechanical and thermal architecture.

• Direct the mechanical and thermal design of advanced liquid cooling, thermal management, and heat exchanger products and components.

• Assemble prototypes and verify their form, fit, and function.

• Manage relationships with external component suppliers and manufacturers, while contributing to product roadmaps.

• Communicate technical project details to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Define design innovations and identify potential patentable solutions.

• Address complex design challenges and manage design trade-offs.

• Develop and validate complex mechanical products across various business units.

• Create mechanical layouts using standard design tools.

• Supervise all aspects of mechanical design with minimal oversight.

• Mentor, guide, and train less-experienced engineers.

• Provide technical leadership to teams located in different geographic areas.

• Manage mechanical engineering projects with multiple engineers assigned.

• Facilitate cross-functional and mechanical engineering design reviews.

• Adhere to regular business hours, with some additional hours as needed.

• Work remotely within the US or onsite in Austin, TX.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• Over 8 years of experience in mechanical design and/or verification or other key competencies.

• Proven experience in the complete mechanical design cycle and launching products into a production environment.

• Required expertise in designing liquid cooling systems, thermal management solutions, heat exchangers, and associated thermal-fluid components.

• Strong background in thermal design and analysis, including heat transfer, fluid flow, and optimization of system-level thermal performance.

• Experience in leading intricate product development initiatives from concept to production.

• Detailed knowledge and proficient use of 3D CAD, Finite Element Analysis, tolerances, manufacturing principles, and interference checks.

• Familiarity with tolerance analysis, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and serviceability.

• Comprehensive understanding of thermal management technologies, liquid cooling architectures, and heat exchanger design principles.

• Knowledge of industry or sector regulatory and safety standards.

• Capability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering talent across remote and distributed teams.

• Proficient understanding of English.

• Ability to evaluate projects, communicate risks, and establish project milestones.

• Competent in developing projects within a stage-gate process (PLCQ).

• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally, up to 30% of the time.

• A Master's degree (MSME/PhD), prior experience in people management, and experience managing remote engineering teams are preferred or highly desired.
