Lead Java Backend Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Provides technical leadership and assumes delivery ownership for a team of software engineers focused on building and operating scalable cloud-native applications on AWS.

• Drives architectural decisions, engineering best practices, and solution design encompassing Spring Boot microservices, OpenSearch platforms, CI/CD, observability, and AWS infrastructure.

• Collaborates with product, architecture, and platform teams to create secure, resilient, and high-performing solutions.

• Mentors engineers and enhances development processes.

• Guides software engineers in delivering business-critical applications.

• Establishes the technical direction and architectural standards.

• Promotes AWS cloud adoption and modernization initiatives.

• Ensures the scalability, performance, security, and reliability of solutions.

• Advocates for DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and AI-assisted development practices.

• Supports incident resolution, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

• Partners with Product Owners, Architects, and stakeholders to align technology investments with business objectives.

• Ensures successful delivery of complex cloud-native solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree is required.

• Over 10 years of experience in a related capacity.

• At least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Proficiency in Java.

• Experience with Spring Boot.

• Familiarity with microservices.

• Proficient in REST APIs.

• Experience with AWS services, including ECS/Fargate, IAM, ALB, RDS, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.

• Knowledge of OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.

• Experience with Docker.

• Familiarity with CI/CD processes.

• Proficient in GitHub.

• Understanding of distributed systems.

• Knowledge of cloud architecture.

• Familiarity with observability.

• Understanding of DevOps principles.

• Knowledge of infrastructure as code.

• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.

• Understanding of event-driven architecture.

• Experience with API integration.

• Skills in performance optimization.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.

• Strong technical leadership, communication skills, stakeholder management, mentoring and coaching abilities, collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making, ownership, conflict resolution, adaptability, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
