Lead Integrated Photonics Simulation and Layout Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Lead the design and layout of components that support PDK development in collaboration with commercial photonic foundries.

• Develop and maintain parameterized component cell (PCell) libraries, incorporating EPDA support and automated layout processes.

• Provide design and layout support for diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, and ion trap photonics technologies.

• Manage complete reticle tapeouts from the initial floorplanning stage to GDS generation.

• Conduct physical verification tasks including DRC (Design Rule Check) and LVS (Layout Versus Schematic).

• Lead layout review sessions.

• Collaborate with internal fabrication and testing teams to ensure PDK components are validated against actual device performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• Proven experience in designing devices within the diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, or ion trap photonics sectors.

• Proficiency in using photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, or COMSOL.

• Significant hands-on experience in generating layouts for integrated photonic circuits.

• Experience managing full-reticle tapeouts with commercial foundries.

• Strong expertise in Python-based photonic layout tools, including KLayout, gdsfactory, or Luceda IPKISS.

• Familiarity with PDK development workflows.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• For U.S. technical positions, must meet relevant U.S. export-control and government-contract regulations, including U.S. Person status or necessary authorization.
