Lead Healthcare Integration Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and execute scalable and secure Azure data architectures intended for business intelligence, analytics, and operational systems.

• Create and manage data pipelines utilizing Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and similar services.

• Participate in the database design process for Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, PostgreSQL, and CosmosDB.

• Enhance storage across Azure Blob Storage, Data Lake, and structured databases.

• Develop data models and structures for effective analytics and reporting.

• Create and preserve stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.

• Implement database DevOps methodologies, including schema versioning, deployment automation, and rollback strategies.

• Conduct database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.

• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with HIPAA/HITRUST for PHI data.

• Oversee database lifecycles throughout development, pre-production, and production phases using RedGate Flyway.

• Design and implement ETL/ELT processes that integrate various data sources.

• Develop event-driven processing solutions with Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, and related services.

• Integrate external REST APIs and create internal Python data APIs utilizing FastAPI/Flask on Azure Container Apps or Functions.

• Formulate data transformation logic and orchestration workflows.

• Guarantee data quality, consistency, and lineage throughout the data platform.

• Incorporate Azure AI services and machine learning endpoints as required.

• Review Power BI semantic models, reports, and dashboards.

• Convert stakeholder business requirements into technical solutions.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and engineers.

• Contribute to the establishment of data engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.

• Engage in architecture reviews and technical decision-making processes.

• Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to enhance the platform.

• Generate technical documentation, data dictionaries, architecture diagrams, and process flows.

• Document data lineage, transformation logic, and business rules.

• Maintain audit trails and compliance documentation.

• Resolve complex data issues and provide escalation support for production.

• Participate in on-call rotation as necessary.

• Develop and manage EHR integrations using FHIR and C-CDA.

• Support HL7 v2/MDM/ADT message flows, including parsing and acknowledgment handling.

• Maintain OpenAPI specifications, API versioning, and contract testing.

• Lead HTML-to-PDF document templating and server-side rendering pipelines.

• Ensure compliance with accessibility and documentation output requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, or similar positions.

• Advanced proficiency in T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.

• High-level proficiency in Python.

• Experience in building REST APIs and background workers using Python (FastAPI/Flask).

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing methodologies.

• Strong expertise with Azure data services, including Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse, and Blob Storage.

• Practical experience in constructing and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.

• Knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, data modeling, and performance enhancements.

• Understanding of database design principles, normalization, and data modeling.

• Experience with Git and CI/CD methodologies.

• Microsoft certification (Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Database Administrator, or Power BI Data Analyst).

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools, including Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.

• Familiarity with Azure services such as Container Apps, Functions, and Logic Apps.

• Experience with PostgreSQL and CosmosDB.

• Understanding of HIPAA/HITRUST compliance standards.

• Experience with PowerShell for automation and scripting tasks.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps or comparable CI/CD platforms.

• Experience in data governance, cataloging, and metadata management.

• Background in healthcare technology or regulated sectors.

• Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger specification design and contract testing.

• Proficient in advanced AI development tools, such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.

• Knowledge of Azure API Management and private networking practices.

• Practical experience with FHIR, including resources, search parameters, and OAuth2/SMART on FHIR.

• Experience integrating with EHR/EMR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athena, or others.

• Experience with HL7 v2, including MLLP/MDM/ADT message management.

• Willingness to travel up to 15% as required.
