Lead Grid Connection Engineer – Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee grid compliance deliverables for long-duration BESS projects, from pre-construction to Final Operational Notification (FON).

• Manage projects and engage with key stakeholders, including BoP contractors, BESS suppliers, consultants, Transmission Operators (TOs), and National Electricity System Operator (NESO).

• Evaluate grid-related contractual sections, schedules, technical outputs, system studies, and tender submissions.

• Assist in design development, technical due diligence, project decision-making, scheduling, risk registers, and budget management.

• Collaborate with the grid development team and TO engineering departments.

• Oversee Mod-App processes and assess updated NESO grid connection documents.

• Monitor commercial and program milestones within grid connection agreements.

• Lead interactions with NESO concerning Operational Notification Compliance Process (ONCP).

• Review detailed designs from contractors, technical Requests for Information (RFIs), network data, and systems studies.

• Coordinate BoP contractors and BESS suppliers throughout the compliance process.

• Assist in testing, commissioning, safe energization, and the transfer of assets to Asset Operations.

• Participate in Commissioning Panel meetings and assist in the review of operations and maintenance documentation.

• Manage outstanding compliance issues from Initial Operational Notification (ION) to FON.

• Provide support for electrical due diligence during acquisitions.

• Lead technical site assessments and third-party investigations.

• Review offers for transmission and distribution connections.

• Communicate with developers, TOs, and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) about connection status and delivery timelines.

• Keep abreast of industry updates and changes to grid codes to identify project risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and/or more than 8 years of industry experience in a technical or grid-focused role.

• Strong commercial acumen.

• Comprehensive understanding of the transmission grid connection compliance process and the broader connection and project delivery framework.

• In-depth knowledge of the grid compliance process.

• Familiarity with project health and safety requirements, including Construction (Design and Management) regulations.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Skills in stakeholder management.

• A strong passion for power systems engineering.

• Proficient in the UK grid code.

• Experience managing the complete compliance process for transmission-connected renewable projects is essential.

• Experience with projects in northern Scotland is particularly appreciated.
