Lead Environmental Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the development of high-quality environments from initial concept to final execution.

• Set and uphold the visual quality standards for environments while ensuring that technical and performance criteria are achieved.

• Design optimized environment assets, which include modular kits, architecture, terrain, props, materials, and set dressing.

• Collaborate closely with Technical Artists, Level Designers, Lighting Artists, and Engineers to harmonize visual quality with performance.

• Define and uphold environment art pipelines, workflows, and technical standards.

• Detect and resolve performance challenges related to geometry, materials, textures, lighting, draw calls, memory usage, LODs, and asset complexity.

• Evaluate and give constructive feedback on the work of Environment Artists while supporting their professional growth.

• Work with Art Direction to convert the artistic vision into scalable and technically feasible environments.

• Engage in profiling and optimization throughout the production process, rather than treating optimization as a final phase.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant professional experience as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist within the game development industry.

• Impressive portfolio showcasing visually captivating, production-ready environments.

• Strong grasp of real-time optimization and the ability to make informed compromises between visual quality and performance.

• In-depth knowledge of environment production pipelines, modular workflows, LODs, materials, shaders, texture optimization, and asset budgets.

• High proficiency with industry-standard 3D software tools.

• Experience with Unreal Engine and/or Unity.

• Solid understanding of lighting, composition, scale, color, and environmental storytelling.

• Capability to profile environments, identify technical bottlenecks, and collaborate with technical teams to address them.

• Leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to deliver clear and constructive artistic and technical feedback.

• Excellent communication and collaborative skills across functions.
