Lead Engineer, Engineering – Edge Product Suite

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Support Technology Leadership in making hiring recommendations, resource distribution, and determining project priorities.

• Work in tandem with the EDge Product Suite Product Manager on prioritizing tasks and designing enterprise-level features.

• Establish and document engineering policies and best practices at the organizational level.

• Suggest and implement strategic applications of AI engineering tools to improve product development and enhance team productivity.

• Create and implement agentic systems that work seamlessly with existing products.

• Offer recommendations regarding technology choices, implementation strategies, and enhancements to team leads and engineers.

• Conduct independent audits and propose initiatives to resolve shortcomings in Noodle's technology products and processes.

• Enhance software quality through code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and other quality assurance practices.

• Assist in high-level technology design and oversee project planning.

• Scale the EDge application suite and continue to explore serverless infrastructure where appropriate.

• Mentor EDge team engineers and serve as their line manager, supporting daily tasks and providing technical and career development guidance.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Collaborate with Noodle, a partner in higher education strategy, services, and technology, to support university online education programs.

⛳️ Requirements

• This role is based in South Africa.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to reside and work in South Africa.

• Applicants must maintain residency in South Africa throughout the duration of their employment.

• Proof of eligibility and residency will be required at the time of hiring.

• 5-8 years of experience in various core programming languages and related frameworks.

• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent professional experience.

• Familiarity with industry-standard tools necessary for the role.

• A strong interest and capability in utilizing AI engineering tools.

• Experience in designing and implementing agentic systems and related tools and frameworks, including LangGraph, LangChain, LangFuse, and OpenAI Agents SDK.

• Proven experience working with agile methodologies to manage product development alongside the software development team.

• A critical thinker and data-driven professional, capable of identifying the right problems to address.

• Strong strategic, analytical, communication, and management skills.

• Demonstrated ability to influence others.

• Respect and understanding of User Experience, Product Development, Quality, and Release disciplines.

• Proficiency in Python, NodeJS, ReactJS, Bootstrap, ANT Design, SSO, and AWS AppSync (GraphQL).

• Experience in Golang is beneficial.

• Familiarity with Amazon EC2 and serverless technologies, including AWS Lambda, SNS, and API Gateway.

• Experience with PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Proven track record of managing multiple complex projects from inception to implementation.

• Demonstrated capacity to successfully lead a team with strong leadership and coaching skills.

• Exceptional client engagement and relationship management skills.

• Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets).

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing, team-oriented environment.
