Lead Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend services and MCP servers for AI-driven applications.

• Create and implement production-ready MCP integrations that allow LLMs and AI agents to engage with external tools and systems.

• Establish clear and dependable MCP tool schemas, descriptions, parameters, validation rules, and response formats.

• Construct RESTful APIs adhering to established API design principles and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.

• Execute API versioning strategies that ensure backward compatibility and facilitate the safe evolution of integrations.

• Develop cloud-native services utilizing AWS Lambda and API Gateway.

• Configure and oversee AWS networking components including VPCs, security boundaries, and service connectivity.

• Protect application credentials and sensitive configurations using AWS Secrets Manager.

• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational visibility through CloudWatch and associated AWS services.

• Establish secure authentication and authorization mechanisms utilizing OAuth 2.0, including client credentials and on-behalf-of flows.

• Design and manage secure API key authentication and credential management protocols.

• Apply rigorous security practices across APIs, MCP servers, cloud infrastructure, and integrations.

• Ensure that credentials, tokens, secrets, and sensitive data are adequately safeguarded throughout the application lifecycle.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to grasp integration requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Diagnose production issues, probe integration failures, and conduct root-cause analysis.

• Write clean, testable, maintainable, and production-ready code.

• Develop unit, integration, and API tests to guarantee reliability and security.

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, documentation, and engineering standards.

• Monitor system performance and reliability while identifying optimization opportunities.

• Stay updated with MCP, LLM tooling, AI agent architectures, cloud technologies, API security, and emerging AI integration patterns.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience in building and operating production backend systems.

• Direct hands-on experience in designing and implementing MCP servers, with at least one MCP integration deployed to production or active users.

• Strong expertise in Node.js and/or TypeScript.

• Required familiarity with Java and the ability to effectively work with Java-based systems and integrations.

• Extensive experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, VPC, Secrets Manager, and CloudWatch.

• In-depth understanding of REST API design, API architecture, and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.

• Experience in implementing API versioning and maintaining backward-compatible integrations.

• Practical experience with OAuth 2.0, including client credentials and on-behalf-of flows.

• Strong understanding of API key management and secure credential handling.

• Clear comprehension of how LLMs utilize tool definitions and how tool descriptions, schemas, and interface design affect agent behavior.

• Solid grasp of MCP concepts, AI tool invocation, agent integrations, and external system connectivity.

• Strong security orientation with practical insights into authentication vs. authorization, secrets management, credential exposure, and secure API design.

• Experience in building reliable distributed backend services and production integrations.

• Proficient debugging, troubleshooting, testing, and root-cause analysis skills.

• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and contemporary software development practices.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
