Lead Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead the development of the semantic layer and MCP layer.

• Design and execute data transformations from raw ingested data into well-structured data models.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate and codify business metrics into clear, governed definitions.

• Implement automated quality checks to ensure data integrity.

• Assist in the creation of internal data dashboards.

• Promote data quality and governance in an FCA-regulated environment, where accurate audit trails are essential.

• Work closely with stakeholders to define data requirements.

• Provide technical guidance and advocate for best practices.

• Encourage the adoption of innovative technologies.

• Serve as a mentor and coach to junior team members.

• Report to the Head of Data.

• Collaborate within a team that includes analysts, analytics engineers, data scientists, and data engineers.

• Partner with cross-functional product teams to address real business challenges.


⛳️ Requirements

• Expert-level proficiency in SQL, BigQuery, dbt, and Python.

• Experience in developing data pipelines and utilizing modern data ingestion and transformation techniques.

• Knowledge of contemporary data architecture patterns.

• Familiarity with AI coding tools, such as Claude Code and analytics agents.

• Proven experience in developing a semantic layer and working with MCP.

• Strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to write maintainable, tested code.

• Solid background in Agile methodologies and using Git for version control.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization, both technical and non-technical.

• Experience in fintech or regulated financial services is a valuable asset.

• Exposure to AI/LLM infrastructure, including developing AI model evaluations, would be advantageous.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures is beneficial.

• Experience with real-time data and supporting infrastructure is a plus.
