Lead Composite Blade Technician, Level 4

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +23 more locations.

📋 Description

• Travel extensively, 100% of the time, to wind farms across North America on an 8/1 rotation.

• Guide and mentor technician teams in the correct repair methods for composite blades up to Category 5.

• Execute expert composite blade repairs uptower using platforms, occasionally on the ground, and potentially employing rope access techniques.

• Conduct epoxy and polyester resin wet lay-up, vacuum infusion, as well as balsa and foam sandwich work.

• Carry out structural blade repairs when necessary.

• Complete comprehensive Daily Progress Reporting Documents and QA/QC reports while following quality checkpoints.

• Perform onsite inventory checks.

• Exhibit leadership qualities within the team.

• Support the site lead and project coordinator.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of high-quality composite repair experience, covering all types of blade repairs.

• Proficient knowledge of epoxy and polyester resins, wet lay-up, and vacuum bagging techniques.

• Experience in handling balsa and foam core materials.

• Understanding of fiberglass reinforcement and structural repair methodologies.

• Competence in safely and effectively using powered hand tools.

• Good finger dexterity for the accurate use of hand and power tools.

• Familiarity with repair specifications, including wind speed, temperature, and humidity limitations.

• Capability to read and understand complex technical drawings and processes.

• Proficient in IT, including email, internet, and iPad operations.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team, accept guidance, and provide leadership as necessary.

• Experience with the safe setup and use of 360-degree and 2M basket platforms.

• Willingness and capability to travel extensively by air and ground transportation, often on short notice, and spend extended periods away from home.

• Ability to drive or travel for up to 11 hours per day when necessary.

• Flexibility to adjust to changes in scope and work assignments.

• Capacity to work safely outdoors in extreme heat and cold conditions.

• Physical capability to climb ladders more than 2 times a day up to 300 feet (90 meters), bend, crawl, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to wear a respirator and work safely with personal protective equipment.

• Good vision, with corrective lenses if needed.

• Valid driver's license, a good MVR report, and must be 21 years or older to operate a company vehicle.

• Valid passport is an advantage.

• Eligibility to work in the U.S. or Canada; citizenship or legal work authorization is required.

• Must successfully complete a criminal background check and maintain a drug-free status.

• Optional/preferred certifications include GWO BST, GWO Blade Repair or Advanced Blade Repair, GWO Slinger Signaller or Siemens Rigging Safety, current IRATA or SPRAT certification, OSHA 10 General Industry EHS Regional Compliance, SGRE Blade C or Blade D, Spot Paint Certification, and GE NAM Blade LOTO certificate.
