Lead Backend Engineer, Java, Python, AWS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance backend services utilizing Java and contemporary JVM technologies.

• Stay actively involved in implementation, testing, debugging, and resolving production issues.

• Take ownership of technical design and architectural decisions for intricate backend and distributed systems.

• Create scalable microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.

• Contribute to services, automation, or data workflows utilizing Python.

• Build and manage applications in AWS and Kubernetes environments.

• Oversee systems throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial design to production operation.

• Identify enhancements for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Establish engineering practices centered on automated testing, integration testing, and code quality.

• Review code and technical designs while providing technical guidance to fellow engineers.

• Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards across the team.

• Collaborate with Product, Platform, and other engineering teams.

• Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Contribute to CI/CD, observability, and practices ensuring production readiness.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Outstanding, recent hands-on experience in Java development.

• Strong expertise with Spring and Spring Boot.

• Professional experience in production environments using Python.

• Extensive experience in designing microservices and distributed systems.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and technologies like Kafka.

• Significant commercial experience with AWS.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Proficiency in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL.

• Experience with CI/CD and modern software delivery methodologies.

• Strong practices in automated testing, including unit and integration testing.

• Proven track record of making impactful architecture and system-design choices.

• Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code/design reviews, or serving as a technical lead.

• Experience owning complex features or services from start to finish, including their operation in production.

• Excellent communication skills and confidence in collaborating across teams and with stakeholders.

• Fluent in English (C1+).
