Lead Backend Engineer, Java, Python, AWS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance backend services utilizing Java and contemporary JVM technologies.

• Implement, test, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues.

• Take ownership of technical design and architectural decisions for intricate backend and distributed systems.

• Create scalable microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.

• Contribute to services, automation, or data workflows with Python.

• Build and manage applications in AWS and Kubernetes environments.

• Oversee systems throughout their lifecycle from initial design to production operation.

• Identify opportunities for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability enhancements.

• Establish engineering practices focused on automated testing, integration testing, and code quality.

• Review code and technical designs while providing technical guidance.

• Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards within the team.

• Collaborate with Product, Platform, and other engineering teams.

• Convey technical decisions, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Contribute to CI/CD, observability, and production-readiness practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Excellent recent hands-on experience in Java development.

• Strong expertise with Spring and Spring Boot.

• Professional experience with Python in production settings.

• Robust experience in designing microservices and distributed systems.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and technologies like Kafka.

• Significant commercial experience with AWS.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

• Experience in designing and integrating REST APIs.

• Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL.

• Experience with CI/CD and modern software delivery methodologies.

• Strong automated testing practices, including unit and integration testing.

• Proven ability to make impactful architecture and system-design decisions.

• Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code/design reviews, or serving as a technical lead.

• Experience managing complex features or services end-to-end, including their operation in production.

• Excellent communication skills and confidence in collaborating across teams and with stakeholders.

• Fluent in English (C1+).
