Lead Auditor – GAGAS, Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee GAGAS/GAAS-compliant audit engagements assigned through work orders, which include external audits, desk reviews, and investigations.

• Manage staff auditors and ensure the quality of workpapers and reports.

• Generate GAGAS-compliant audit reports and workpapers that meet client standards.

• Assist in training and knowledge transfer for client compliance personnel.

• Contribute qualifications as a lead auditor and past-performance narratives to AlphaGov proposals when authorized.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an accounting-related discipline with at least 27 semester hours in accounting (transcripts/diplomas required).

• Practical experience in GAGAS and/or GAAS audits.

• Knowledge of FAR Part 31, 2 CFR 200, and associated grant/overhead audit frameworks.

• Comfortable working as a 1099/project-based collaborator.

• Willingness to travel significantly (approximately 25%+) to Springfield, IL, and statewide client locations.

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

• Experience with transportation-agency or grant-funded program audits.

• Previous work related to state Department of Transportation (DOT) or Bureau of Investigations & Compliance.

• 2–3 prior GAGAS or compliance audit engagements that can be detailed, including scope, dates, and role.
