Labor Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of labor and employment law for a rapidly expanding company with both employees and independent contractors.

• Provide guidance on worker classification for employees and contractors.

• Offer counsel on wage and hour regulations, leave policies, termination processes, and other employment compliance inquiries across various jurisdictions.

• Collaborate with HR and expert workforce teams to develop and refine policies, procedures, and compliance practices.

• Oversee claims, demand letters, agency charges, and resolve disputes.

• Partner with external legal counsel on litigation matters.

• Review and enhance employee communications as well as onboarding and offboarding documentation.

• Work alongside the HR team on HR systems and data to ensure legal requirements are integrated into team tools.

• Investigate and provide advice on employee relations matters in conjunction with HR.

• Articulate the legal rationale behind rules to HR and management in accessible language.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in labor and employment law, either in a law firm setting or in-house.

• A comprehensive background that encompasses both regulatory compliance and litigation.

• Practical experience with worker classification.

• Experience on the plaintiff side is appreciated but not mandatory.

• Familiarity with HRIS systems is preferred.

• Ability to communicate clearly and practically with HR, management, and individuals without a legal background.

• Comfortable developing policies and processes from the ground up.

• A keen interest in how AI companies operate with large, distributed workforces.
