This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.
• Investigate upstream security vulnerabilities (CVE) and bug fixes; assess patch dependencies and their effects on legacy kernels.
• Manually backport Linux kernel patches to older kernel versions utilized in RPM-based and Debian-based distributions.
• Address merge conflicts between upstream modifications and targeted kernel codebases.
• Compile and rebuild kernel source and binary packages utilizing reproducible build environments for both RPM and Debian ecosystems.
• Validate patched kernels through build tests, runtime evaluations, and regression analyses.
• Improve internal processes for patch preparation, build automation, and validation pipelines using Python, Go, and Shell scripting.
• Utilize agentic/AI-assisted development tools while meticulously verifying the generated outputs.
• Document technical decisions made during the development process.
• Engage in code reviews to ensure quality and standards.
• Communicate effectively with team members across various time zones.
• Strong proficiency in C and practical Linux debugging abilities.
• Demonstrated experience in Linux kernel development, particularly in patching, backporting, or debugging.
• Solid familiarity with Git, GNU build tools (make, autotools), and standard Linux development utilities.
• Experience in building Linux kernels or distribution packages from source.
• Scripting and automation skills in Python, Go, or Shell.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Codeium, or similar, with a disciplined approach to code verification.
• Intermediate or higher proficiency in English (B1+), both written and spoken.
• Strong sense of ownership, balanced technical judgment, and the capability to articulate trade-offs.
• Nice to have: experience with RPM/SRPM or Debian kernel packaging.
• Nice to have: familiarity with security patching, CVE analysis, and extended lifecycle maintenance.
• Nice to have: working knowledge of Docker, QEMU, Jenkins, or other CI systems.
• Nice to have: experience in designing kernel validation tests, analyzing core dumps, and investigating regressions.
• Ability to work remotely in an asynchronous environment with minimal supervision while maintaining clear communication.
