Expert Mainframe Systems Programmer – IMS Physical

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver exceptional software support and services to Ensono's mainframe clients regarding Mainframe IMS systems.

• Address customer service requests for mainframe z/OS clients concerning IMS and associated OEM software products.

• Serve as the primary support for issues related to IMS and relevant OEM software products.

• Provide support around the clock, 24/7/365, across various time zones.

• Install OEM software products following best practices and Ensono standards.

• Assist in customer migration services and transitions for newly acquired clients.

• Support project managers with customer migrations, resolving technical challenges without delaying transition progress or migration timelines.

• Execute tasks related to customer disaster recovery plans in collaboration with Disaster Recovery Services.

• Manage schedules and resources to ensure timely implementations.

• Adhere to ITSM change control procedures.

• Review new IMS versions and inform clients about functionality advantages.

• Collaborate with vendors regarding issues and inquiries.

• Conduct disaster recovery for application objects.

• Utilize IMS commands for ACB and FORMAT modifications.

• Code and leverage IMS reorganization utilities, including those from IBM, BMC, and CA.

• Identify and rectify performance concerns.

• Perform online tracing using IMS TRACE commands and related utilities.

• Extract data from IMS logs and utilize DBRC to oversee database activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree is required and/or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 12 years of professional experience in IMS administration and systems programming support.

• Familiarity with best practices in software management, maintenance, and documentation.

• Experience configuring and managing IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.

• Proven experience in developing innovations, strategies, processes, and best practices in IMS systems programming.

• Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving IMS system and database challenges.

• Skilled in evaluating change requests and assessing their impact on assigned clients.

• Experienced in troubleshooting and resolving production database issues.

• Strong proficiency in JCL.

• Background in database administration.

• Knowledge of IMS database organization utilizing VSAM and OSAM access methods.

• Understanding of full-function database organization types: HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM.

• Knowledge of HALDB logical databases, including PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, and PSINDEX.

• Familiarity with Fast Path databases (DEDBs).

• Experience in database design and related utilities.

• Competence in DBD source coding and DBDGEN.

• Experience with PSB source coding and PSBGEN.

• Understanding of secondary indexes and PROCSEQ=.

• Correct application of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking.

• Comprehension of path calls, bi-directional logical relationships, and Data Set Groups.

• Familiarity with CA and IBM tools for IMS is a bonus.
