Joint Use Engineer

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Assess joint use applications for pole attachments, which include telecom, fiber, cable, and wireless equipment installations.

β€’ Conduct structural and load analyses of utility poles to verify compliance with design and safety standards.

β€’ Analyze pole capacity and identify make-ready requirements for new attachments.

β€’ Design and recommend upgrades such as pole replacements, guying, or rearrangements.

β€’ Ensure compliance with NESC, company policies, and local/state regulations.

β€’ Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and third-party attachers.

β€’ Provide cost estimates and assist in establishing timelines for make-ready projects.

β€’ Review and authorize engineering drawings, construction plans, and field data.

β€’ Address field issues related to pole attachments, conflicts, or clearance violations.

β€’ Assist in field inspections and audits of existing pole conditions and attachments.

β€’ Maintain engineering and asset records within GIS or work management systems.

β€’ Support the development of joint use policies, standards, and process enhancements.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

β€’ 2–5+ years of experience in utility distribution engineering, telecommunications, or joint use engineering.

β€’ Understanding of overhead distribution systems and pole line construction methods.

β€’ Familiarity with NESC, OSHA regulations, and joint use agreements.

β€’ Experience with pole loading analysis software (e.g., O-Calc, SpidaCalc, Katapult, or similar tools).

β€’ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

β€’ Capability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately.

β€’ Excellent communication and coordination skills.

β€’ Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is preferred.

β€’ Experience collaborating with electric utilities or telecom providers is preferred.

β€’ Familiarity with GIS systems and utility asset management databases is preferred.

β€’ Knowledge of make-ready engineering and FCC pole attachment regulations is preferred.
