Joint Use Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Create construction documents, including plan and profile drawings, for overhead and underground electric distribution, fiber optic, and telecommunications facilities.

• Develop make-ready work for joint-use projects.

• Aid in engineering and project cost estimates as well as execution schedules.

• Provide field support throughout the construction phase.

• Conduct quality reviews and adhere to the QA/QC process.

• Assess equipment loading and structural pole loading for cost-effective, safe, and reliable designs.

• Implement NESC, client, federal, state, and local standards and guidelines in engineering designs.

• Analyze field-collected data and imagery, updating software packages for design implementation.

• Utilize client proprietary software and equipment in the engineering design process.

• Manage new attachment permitting processes as required.

• Complete assigned tasks within project timelines and budgets.

• Relay project status to management and provide engineering design solutions to clients.

• Supply documentation and assistance to accounting functions for project budgeting and financial tracking.

• Record notes and use measuring devices to inspect and document field data.

• Participate in client-site meetings and engage with the general public, including landowners and operators.

• Inspect and document equipment, construction situations, and rights-of-way.

• Collaborate with coworkers and clients to determine optimal engineering design solutions.

• Primarily perform remote/office-based work, with fieldwork occurring throughout the design process.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in fieldwork, construction environments, drafting, utility experience, or technical design.

• Associate Degree in engineering technology, construction, drafting technology, or a related technical discipline, along with 0-2 years of experience, and an interest in fieldwork, surveying, or equivalent experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction, GIS, drafting, or a related technical discipline is preferred, with 0-2 years of experience.

• Experience with DDS and Katapult is strongly preferred.

• Prior utility design experience or make-ready design experience is preferred.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/schematics is preferred.

• Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction is preferred.

• Experience in pole loading using Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or Katapult, or other construction modeling software, such as AutoCAD, is advantageous.

• Familiarity with utility or joint-use software, including SPANS, NJUNS, or IkeGPS, is beneficial.

• Understanding of utility distribution design and construction standards and industry practices.

• Proficient in using design software packages.

• Knowledge of design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables.

• Familiarity with safe work practices and PPE applications.

• Ability to maintain organized project data from inception to completion.

• Capability to prioritize tasks across multiple projects and communicate project statuses effectively.

• Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office, design, and business enterprise software.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Reasoning skills with the ability to solve practical problems.

• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance are required.

• Ability to pass a fit-for-duty test.

• Flexibility to work from home and in an office setting as necessary.

• Ability to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana, and participate in random testing.

• Willingness to travel overnight or for extended periods based on project needs.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

• Capability to endure frequent driving, standing, walking several miles daily, navigating complex terrain, balancing objects up to 20 pounds, and performing fieldwork.
