IT Documentation Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Assist with initiatives and programs for Indian Affairs and the Office of Information Technology.

β€’ Create, review, edit, format, and sustain SOPs, memoranda, design documents, requirements documents, reports, manuals, templates, and email notifications.

β€’ Develop user manuals, content for online knowledge centers, SOPs, online help, getting-started guides, quick-reference materials, and training resources.

β€’ Convert complex technical data into clear, precise, and audience-appropriate content.

β€’ Conduct interviews with subject matter experts and technical staff, organize gathered information, and document it for non-technical audiences.

β€’ Create and manage content for the IA Service Center knowledge library and other sanctioned knowledge repositories.

β€’ Produce technical models and visual representations, such as architecture diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams, component models, sequence diagrams, and flowcharts.

β€’ Evaluate documentation for technical precision, thoroughness, consistency, readability, grammar, and adherence to standards.

β€’ Implement document templates, style guides, version control practices, and quality assurance procedures.

β€’ Facilitate document reviews, integrate stakeholder feedback, resolve discrepancies, and prepare final outputs.

β€’ Create accessible materials that enhance knowledge transfer, training, product adoption, and customer experience.

β€’ Monitor assigned tasks and deliverables to ensure they meet schedule, quality, and performance expectations.

β€’ Collaborate with the Federal Task Lead, project teams, and subject matter experts.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ At least four (4) years of experience in creating documentation, reports, manuals, and related materials for IT programs or projects.

β€’ Experience in technical writing, including drafting, reviewing, editing, proofreading, and formatting technical documents.

β€’ Exceptional written communication abilities, with a strong command of English spelling, grammar, composition, and usage.

β€’ Proficient in Microsoft Office products with experience in document editing, formatting, and correction tasks.

β€’ Capability to assess documentation for quality, clarity, accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance.

β€’ Familiarity with IT project management processes and relevant documentation, including SDLC documents and templates, FEA, CPIC, risk management, and IT security management.

β€’ Knowledge of federal IT management laws, regulations, and processes, such as the Clinger-Cohen Act of 1996, E-Government Act of 2002, and FISMA.

β€’ Skill in interviewing subject matter experts and translating complex technical information for non-technical audiences.

β€’ Demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and fulfill assigned schedule, quality, and performance expectations.

β€’ U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

β€’ Must be able to obtain and maintain the Government security clearance and/or suitability determination required for the position.

β€’ Must comply with all relevant federal contract stipulations.

β€’ Preferred: Experience aiding federal government agencies or federal IT programs.

β€’ Preferred: Experience working with the U.S. Department of the Interior and/or Indian Affairs.

β€’ Preferred: Experience in developing content for knowledge management systems, service centers, or online knowledge libraries.

β€’ Preferred: Experience creating technical diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.

β€’ Preferred: Active Government security clearance.

β€’ Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

β€’ Capacity to work for extended periods while seated and operating a computer, using standard office equipment, and communicating effectively.
