This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Proactively seek out potential investment opportunities utilizing personal networks and expertise.
• Evaluate investment prospects to ensure alignment with the fund’s objectives.
• Analyze competitive environments for potential investments.
• Collaborate with and supervise junior professionals.
• Lead and assist in the due diligence process for prospective investments.
• Create financial models to assess cash needs and milestones for both potential and existing portfolio companies.
• Monitor the progress of portfolio companies post-investment.
• Aid executives with board duties and gradually take on specific board responsibilities.
• Prepare investment reports and valuations for quarterly and annual assessments.
• Oversee due diligence procedures.
• Lead and support negotiations for terms related to new investments.
• Contribute to knowledge management and translate project and programmatic data.
• Monitor fund deal flow and compile weekly team meeting reports and summaries.
• Gather impact data from portfolio companies.
• Provide organizational assistance as required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, along with a graduate degree or equivalent experience.
• Over 5 years of professional experience with significant exposure to company investments.
• Proficient in developing financial models and performing sensitivity analyses.
• Investment experience in the health, food, co-op, or social entrepreneurship sectors.
• Skilled in preparing and negotiating complex transactions while balancing the programmatic needs of community-based organizations with underwriting judgment and risk management.
• Familiarity with one or more of Capital Impact’s five primary geographic areas.
• Proven ability to generate deal flow through personal connections and experience.
• Demonstrated interest and experience in impact investing.
• Experience as a board member or observer.
• Experience leading due diligence efforts for potential investments.
• Capable of engaging with bankers, investors, and other stakeholders.
• Advanced skills in writing, investment summaries, investment memos, PowerPoint, word processing, and spreadsheets.
• Ability to operate with minimal supervision.
• Proactive and independent in collaboration with team members and external partners.
• Excellent communication and presentation capabilities.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, critical thinking, and organizational abilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Initiative to leverage knowledge and resources for problem-solving.
• Experience in prioritizing and managing multiple projects, tasks, and tight deadlines.
• Passionate about community and economic development, impact investing, and social justice.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Suite; experience with Salesforce is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Eligibility for annual discretionary incentives.
• Option for 100% remote work.
• Flexibility to work from Arlington, VA, California offices, or the New York City metropolitan area.
