Instrumentation and Controls Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.

📋 Description

• Oversee, design, and integrate process control systems at the site.

• Report directly to the Electrical Engineer.

• Wire, terminate, and test 120V control systems and instrumentation panels in accordance with approved schematics.

• Install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation such as pressure transmitters, flow meters, belt scales, temperature transmitters, and valve controllers.

• Develop and implement PLC code to address site safety, environmental, and production requirements.

• Assist in achieving production objectives and fixed plant maintenance through modifications to control systems.

• Provide support with equipment specifications pertaining to control systems.

• Program and set up PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems.

• Create and execute network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control illustrations, Controls Narratives, and Cause and Effect documents.

• Maintain backup files for PLC and HMI applications.

• Install, commission, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives and Soft-Start equipment.

• Install and upkeep control network equipment.

• Collaborate with the Electrical Department on equipment installation and troubleshooting tasks.

• Work overtime as necessary for production downtime, equipment malfunctions, call-outs, troubleshooting, and project commissioning.

• Cease work when safety issues arise and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

• Carry out other assigned tasks.

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Ability to work safely and encourage safe practices among others.

• Capability to work with minimal supervision.

• Effective verbal and written communication with all personnel at the mine site.

• Outstanding safety, attendance, and work history.

• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including rain, snow, ice, wind, cold temperatures, and limited daylight.

• Ability to frequently stand and walk on uneven surfaces, including surface and underground areas.

• Capability to climb stairs, ladders, and escapeways.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to push and pull equipment or materials weighing over 100 pounds.

• Ability to wear necessary PPE, including respiratory protection when required.

• Willingness to participate in emergency response and evacuation procedures.

• Instrumentation Technician Certification or equivalent work experience is preferred.

• Familiarity with PLC, HMI, DCS, or SCADA systems is preferred.

• Programming knowledge is an advantage.

• Preference will be given to Alaska residents.
