Inpatient Medical Coder, PRN

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assign diagnostic and procedural codes utilizing ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.

• Precisely sequence and abstract medical codes from patient records.

• Supervise and audit Level 1 and 2 Coders, when applicable.

• Advocate for documentation improvement initiatives and coding concerns.

• Facilitate resolutions with relevant stakeholders.

• Ensure 95% overall coding accuracy and 95% MS-DRG assignment accuracy.

• Adhere to site-specific productivity standards.

• Communicate professionally with colleagues, management, and hospital personnel.

• Address clinical and reimbursement challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in inpatient coding within a facility.

• Credentialed and experienced inpatient coder.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification preferred.

• Associate or Bachelor's degree from an AHIMA-accredited HIM or Nursing Program, or completion of a certificate program from AHIMA/AAPC, preferably with CCS.

• At least 3 years of inpatient coding experience at a Level I Trauma Center, ideally in an academic medical setting.

• Experience receiving significant coding quality review feedback.

• Proficient in computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Must not require employment sponsorship.

• Capability to meet post-offer health screening and vaccination requirements, where applicable.
