Inpatient Coding Specialist II, Relief, Non-Benefitted

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess inpatient medical record documentation and accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Designate MS-DRG or APR-DRG groupings, POA indicators, discharge disposition, and sources of admission.

• Extract necessary data elements according to facility guidelines.

• Oversee Discharged Not Billed accounts and assist in timely, compliant revenue-cycle processing.

• Work in collaboration with Clinical Documentation Specialists and medical staff to clarify and complete documentation.

• Ensure coding accuracy while adhering to established quality and productivity benchmarks.

• Evaluate information for suitable reimbursement and clean claims.

• Implement CMS requirements, CCI edits, HACs, PSIs, NCDs, LCDs, and appropriate modifiers.

• Utilize Epic, 3M Coding and Reimbursement System, 3M CDIS, 3M Audit Expert, MS Office, and additional software.

• Participate in mandatory meetings, educational sessions, and annual training programs.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

• Successful completion of the Coder Proficiency Exam (prior to hiring).

• Certification as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.

• Understanding of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding conventions.

• Familiarity with MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs.

• Awareness of CCI and CMS compliance matters.

• Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diseases, and medical-record regulations.

• Capability to extract information from medical records and accurately assign codes.

• Competence in using 3M encoder, 3M Audit Expert, 3M CDIS, abstracting systems, MS Office, and related software.

• Ability to adhere to the AHIMA Code of Ethics and Standards and UHDDS standards.

• Successful completion of the required pre-hire coder proficiency examination.
